Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter born to Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. As a young girl her carnival barker father passed away which left Ruth's mother with no choice but to work as a cleaning girl and waitress to provide for the family. Ruth was raised in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts where she enrolled in the school. She left the school she attended after only two years in order to pursue the profession of acting. The path she chose was filled with difficulties. When she was offered a job at New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she found it difficult to secure opportunities on stage. Then, after a stint as a club hat girl, she decided to return to her home in Massachusetts and leave the job she was working in. In Boston, in which she was employed during the night as an actor with New England Repertory Company and for the remainder of her time as an usherette. She graduated with a degree in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
